It is believed that this temple was built before 2000 years back. The statue of Lord Muruga found here is around 8 feet 6 inches. The idol of Goddess Valliamman of 6 feet 8 inches is found on the left side of Lord Muruga.
Goddess Valli's marriage is celebrated here. The mountain Velimalai is found here and it is believed that descenders (hunters) of Goddess is still staying here. Lord Murugan in old man form, Valli bathe pond and Lord Ganapathy in the form of Kalyana Vinayaga are the famous places nearby this temple. This temple came under the control of Tamilnadu Government on 01-11-1956. As Murugan stayed here as VENGAI Tree to marry Valli, this tree became the holy tree of this temple. To marry valli, it is said that Lord Muruga killed lots of hunter.
